Location is everything.

When choosing a location for an elopement, it’s important to consider the couple’s preferences and the type of photos you want to capture. If the couple is looking for a romantic and intimate setting, a secluded spot in the woods or on a beach would be perfect. If they’re looking for something a little more adventurous, you could consider a mountaintop or a canyon, or maybe YOSEMITE like the couple pictured above. Not every elopement has to be a hiking adventure.

Scout the location ahead of time.

Once you’ve helped your couple choose a location, it’s important to scout it out ahead of time. As an elopement photographer, it will be our responsibility to know what permits are needed and what locations will work for their elopement. This will give you a chance to get to know the area and find the best spots for shooting. It will also help you to determine what kind of lighting you can expect and whether there will be any obstacles in the way. Become and expert in the areas you want to be the go-to elopement photographer in!!

Be creative. 

Elopements are the perfect opportunity to be creative with your photography. Experiment with different angles, different lighting, and different compositions. You have more creative freedom with out all the demands of a traditional wedding, this is a way you can show up and serve your couple. Find a way to make your brand stand out in a sea of photographers.

Capture the moment. Elopements are often just the couple, so it’s important to capture the moments so they can share the day through photos with loved ones. Focus on the couple’s vows, their first kiss, and their first dance.

Be flexible.

The weather is unpredictable, so it’s important to be flexible when shooting an elopement. If it rains or the wind picks up, you’ll need to adjust your plans accordingly. The best way to do this is to have a backup plan in place.

The most important thing to remember when shooting an elopement is to focus on the couple. This is their day to celebrate their love, so make sure you capture the moments that are most special to them.
